I am so proud to be an American!!! The 4th of July has always been my favorite holiday, starting back with memories of sparkly hats and matching Old Navy flag shirts as kids in Utah, surrounded by family and plenty of salt water taffy 😉 This year, Oliver and I began a new tradition and went to watch the fireworks at the Lincoln Memorial with the US Capitol in the background. We found a grassy spot and camped out early. It was a perfect holiday.
My Mom has recently been promoted to CEO and COO of the wedding enterprise, managing every little detail and every tiny to-do. Thanks to her help, we should be able to pull everything together nicely.
The most exciting news of the month is that I just accepted a job offer! I’ll be starting as an associate at a private wealth management/financial planning firm just north of DC and am SO SO SO beyond excited to begin—really top notch people. The CEO, who I will be working directly for, is also an amazing teacher and mentor. The miracle about it is that they are willing to let me start September 15th, after we get back from our honeymoon, anddddd they are going to cover all of my costs related to the CFP process, Series 7 (and other) exams, and all of Georgetown! What a blessing!!! I am expected to take an pass the Series 7 exam (required to be a stockbroker) as soon as possible, so with grad school AND the 7 to study for, right on top of each other, married life is going to be very busy. Wakeup, jog, work, home, study, sleep, repeat. I’ve already started studying and am so in love with the material, it hardly feels like studying at all! So naturally, I mapped out a five year plan for Oliver & myself, after which he laughed and promptly dubbed me CFO of the family. I cannot wait to start working and learning and am thrilled that I finally get to work my hobby into a career.
Being at home has been a rare treat. Sarah and I have enjoyed day trips to the beach, taking shopping trips, going on runs on the trails at reservoir, and now her 14th birthday party, which is currently going on in my basement downstairs 😉 What a beauty she is growing up to be!
Oliver is leading a week’s worth of meetings in San Fransisco next week, which has been taking up most of his energy (and has been a really fortunate distraction from wedding antsy-ness…hahah). I occasionally think that I should figure out a way to get a Top Secret clearance myself, so I can be allowed to know what’s actually going on…. I’ll work on it 😉
Anyway, back to studying! See you all at the wedding! 🙂
